Entries now closed for Waiclay National Ceramic Award
Conditions of Entry
- All styles and techniques of work may be entered, provided the work is constructed primarily clay.
- Each artist may submit up to 2 entries only.
- All entries must be the original work of the entrant, in concept and design and not previously exhibited.
- Entries may be single works, installations or joint entries with all parties signing the entry form.
- Open to New Zealand residents or citizens.
- An entry fee of $40 for one or $60 for two entries is to be paid at time of submitting entry.
- Up to 3 images per entry may be submitted, at least one image of the full work, other images may be details. Images must be high resolution (300dpi) and the file size less than 2 MB. Work submitted that does not match the images will be disqualified.
- The artist statement must be concise, no more than 50 words. This will be used for the catalogue.
- The entry form must be submitted and fee paid by 24 September 2025.
- Late entries will not be accepted.
- The judge, Andile Dyalvane , will make the initial selection from the images submitted.
- The final selection will be in situ at Te Whare Taonga O Waikato Museum Gallery.
- Shortlisted finalists will be notified via email by 12 October.
- Shortlisted works for the final selection must be couriered to David Lloyd Gallery, Hamilton for receiving between 20 – 24 October. If selected, detailed instructions will be emailed regarding packaging and courier address.
- Freight to and from the exhibition and transit insurance is the responsibility of the entrant. Waiclay accepts no responsibility for any loss or damage.
- All work must be for sale and a commission of 40% will be charged on all sales.
- Winners will be announced at Awards Opening on Friday 12 December at Te Whare Taonga O Waikato Museum Gallery.
- Artists must supply bank account details for payment of sold items that will be made at the close of the exhibition.
- Waiclay reserves the right to photograph and reproduce works for publications relating to the Waiclay National Ceramic Award, Waiclay social media and for archival purposes. The signed entry form is evidence of the entrants consent.
- All personal information gathered by Waiclay will be used solely for the purpose of administering Waiclay National Ceramic Award.
- The exhibition will be open to the public from 13 December 2025 to 23 March 2026.
- In an unforeseen event, Te Whare Taonga O Waikato Museum and Waiclay reserve the right to postpone or cancel the event. Postponement or cancellation will not give rise to any liability on the part of the Te Whare Taonga O Waikato Museum or Waiclay whatsoever.
Salon des Refusés Exhibition
- On the entry form if your work is not selected for Waiclay National Ceramic Award you have the choice to have it exhibited at Salon des Refusés at David Lloyd Gallery, Hamilton.
- Rules and conditions are the same as Waiclay National Art Award excluding catalogue.
- Opening event 13 December at 10am.
- Gallery open December 13 & 14 December, from 10am to 4pm.
All due care will be taken with every aspect of the exhibition, but the organisers will not be responsible for clerical errors and/or any unforeseen mistakes, including accidents or breakages made by them or volunteer helpers.
